AC Efficiency in Greensboro, NC
Your air conditioner does an important service for you, but it's expensive to run. If it's not working efficiently, it can add hundreds of dollars to your energy bills. However, there are some things you can do to see if your air conditioner is operating as well as it should be. Checking it could alert you to a possible problem with your air conditioning system so that you can have it fixed and save a lot of money over the long run.

Two Basic Tools
This simple technique will tell you if you have an adequate temperature drop and give you an idea of whether or not your fans, blowers and motors are working all right. It only requires two items. All you have to do is get a thermometer from the kitchen or garden and a piece of paper. When choosing the thermometer, just make sure that it functions without a timer. The piece of paper can be any kind that you'd put in a printer or get out of a notebook.

Check the Temperatures
Take the piece of paper and go around to the registers to determine if they're for intake or supply. The intake registers pull air into the air conditioning system, and the supply registers push the chilled air back into the house. Once you find an intake register, put the thermometer against the vent and let it rest there for about five minutes. Then, note the temperature reading. Find a supply register, and take the temperature in the same way there.

Compare the Temperatures
Compare the two temperatures. There should be about 15 to 20 degrees difference between the two readings. That's called the temperature drop. If the difference is much less, it means that the air conditioner isn't cooling enough. If it's much greater, there might be something else wrong with your air conditioner.

All furnaces should be serviced and maintained regularly to make sure that they continue heating effectively and efficiently. If you want to lessen the chances of your furnace breaking down over the winter, you should always have your furnace professionally serviced every year. In this post, we're going to discuss why furnace maintenance is important and what it involves.

The Importance of Yearly Furnace Maintenance

Furnace maintenance is essential for your safety. It helps to prevent possible fire hazards and carbon monoxide leaks. The technician servicing your equipment will always check that everything is functioning properly to ensure the furnace will automatically shut down if it overheats or experiences a safety issue. Maintenance is also important for the life of your furnace, ensuring it lasts anywhere from 15 to 30 years. It can also save you money by lowering your heating costs and helping to avoid costly repairs later on.

What Does Furnace Maintenance Entail?

Maintaining a furnace involves inspecting, cleaning and testing all of your heating system's components on an annual basis. This includes the various components inside the furnace, as well as the blower and thermostat.

A technician will inspect your ductwork to ensure it isn't damaged or leaking air. Damaged ductwork will greatly increase your energy costs and make your heating system far less effective.

Cleaning the blower assembly, furnace burners and flame sensor are especially important for keeping the furnace heating effectively. This also provides reliability. Inspecting the heat exchanger and exhaust flue is also essential for ensuring the furnace is properly vented and preventing carbon monoxide leaks.
